What inspired you to start your business?
Health and wellness changed my life, and I’ve always loved helping people. I got started with Herbalife Nutrition straight out of high school, and I worked at a few nutrition clubs in the Saint Cloud area. I knew I wanted to open my own business and help impact a new community! Opening Purpose has allowed me to create a supportive environment where people can reach their goals and build more confidence.
When did you open your doors (or purchase the business), and what was that first year like?
We first opened our doors November of 2018. I actually took over a failing business that was there for a little over a year. I was 21 years old when I took over the space, so I was very young and did not know much about how to run a business, so the first year took a lot of learning and hardship to get where we are today.
What’s something you’ve learned about owning a business that you didn’t expect?
There is so much behind the scenes of running a business. Learning how to juggle all of the daily tasks of being an owner/operator- not only are you making the schedule, doing all marketing, accountant, ordering products, etc. This has taught me how to become more resourceful and how to prioritize better!
Learning to have the power of adaptability has been huge for me as well. Knowing there will be huge wins that feel so rewarding, but also setbacks that will emotionally hit you.
How has the community supported you throughout your journey?
I have been blown away by how incredible this community and other local businesses have been to our small business. From day one, everyone has shown their support. From spreading the word of new ownership, to leaving us kind reviews, to choosing to shop local has giving me so much encouragement to keep going. We have made so many personal connections over the past six years, and I am so grateful to have this amazing community surrounding us!
Local businesses in town have also been incredibly welcoming! We’ve collaborated on events, shared our resources, and helped build each other up. It’s amazing how much stronger a community can be when we all support each other rather than compete against one another!
What does being a small business in the Cold Spring area mean to you?
I have always loved this area growing up. I told myself when I was in high school coming to town for a football game, that I loved this town and wanted to come back. To me, being a small business means being part of something bigger. It’s about building relationships, supporting others, and contributing back to the community. Being a small business means doing what I love every day and getting the opportunity to share that with others.
I named my small business, Purpose Nutrition, because when I found Herbalife, I found my Purpose. My Purpose in this life is to help make a positive impact on every single person around me.
How have you been able to support the local communities?
Supporting our local community has always been at the heart of what we do. Throughout the year, we actively look for ways to give back and uplift those around us. During the holiday season, our annual Giving Tree event helps provide Christmas gifts to local families in need. We also offer free-will donation gift wrapping, with proceeds going to support Rocori Action Packs.
We host school supply drives to ensure students are equipped for success, donate teas throughout town, and hold customer appreciation days to thank those who continue to support us. Fundraisers and contributions to various local groups and organizations are a regular part of our efforts, and we’re always eager to support fellow local businesses in any way we can.
Beyond the business, I’ve served on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for the past four years, helping to strengthen connections and growth within our local business community. Giving back isn’t just something we do, it’s a core part of who we are.
