What type of products or services do you offer?
The Wenner Company consists of a full-service hardware store, a residential and commercial gas sales and delivery company and a rental center. Within our family of businesses is also the Wenner Funeral Home (with two locations in Cold Spring and Richmond, MN), Speedway of Cold Spring location on the corner of Red River Avenue and Highway 23 and the Rockville Propane Terminal.
What inspired you to start your business & when did you open your doors (or purchase the business) and what was the first year like?
The company began in 1863 due to a need for someone to provide funeral services. It has since blossomed into the large scale business it is today. The company is currently owned and operated by Carl, Pat & Jim Wenner. As fifth generation owners we feel very fortunate to be able to be part of a company that has been locally owned and operated and serving the Central Minnesota area for well over 160 years.
What’s something you’ve learned about owning a business that you didn’t expect?
People come to us from all walks of life with different problems and expectations. We’ve learned the importance of being resourceful, helpful and kind to everyone, especially in a challenging situation.
How has the community supported you throughout your journey?
The community has been very supportive by shopping local and having faith in our services. A majority of our business is from our return customers and our new customers that hear about us by word of mouth. Our main goal is to continue to provide the kind of service that is deserving of the support of the community to keep our customer base growing through positive service experiences.
What does being a small business in the Cold Spring area mean to you?
It means taking pride in our work, and in our community.
How have you been able to support the local communities?
By providing them with a range of goods and services, as well as participating in events and donating as we can.
